Basement renovations are what you make of the space. And this family of three needed a space that would satisfy each of their needs, as well as the family’s as a whole. The end result – a new family area, separate office, full bath, and patio, almost doubled the usable living space of the house.
The house was situated on a steep slope, and featured an expansive, windowless wall. We began by adding large windows and sliding glass doors, letting in light and bridging the interior and exterior spaces. An outdoor patio was built, with access from both the new family area as well as the office. A cantilevered staircase was also added, connecting the kitchen on the main floor to the new patio below. Within the main family area, there was a wet bar for entertaining, and custom-built cabinets for both children’s toys and the parents’ a/v system.
